Time is not so many days on a calendar as it is a series of events. One experience created after another. I spent the last two days in front of my computer doing what I thought was an easy task.
I am doing things I don’t know how to do . One vlog leads to a video tutorial that I dutifully play while I download a new software and then another. Did I mention I don’t know what I am doing?
Not having skills has not stopped me in the past. This is more challenging as parts I try to assemble don’t forgive as much as lumber and nails. And they seem to keep moving or are spoken of in a language beyond me. I move forward, knowing there are pieces missing. Last night I gave up trying to get three different softwares to talk to each other. This morning I came back and flipped that activate button that had somehow appeared in the dark of the previous night. Flipped, turned green and all the links now link. Well, I think they do. We will see.
Writing can be a lonely business. Publishing even more so. When I write, the people living in the pages keep me company. I delight when they surprise me, and the story unfolds because of the paths they chose. I want to share them with the world, but they don’t care. My job was to craft the stories, do all the editing stuff, put it on Amazon and the world would line up to read my books. Turns out there is more to be done. (I mentioned that I don’t know what I am doing, right?)
I recently engaged the services of a writing coach, or more accurately, a move forward and publish coach. I find it useful to have someone whom I am accountable to move forward. Not that she is driving me but knowing that there is someone else on my adventure who has been there helps me hold myself accountable. We are figuring this out together.
Writing is therapeutic. I wrote a few times that I don’t know what I am doing. Sounds like an obstacle. Yes, there are lots of parts and they keep on moving. So many choices and decisions to make, none with guaranteed results. I am going to learn from the people in my books who move forward and create their adventures. Yes, it is true. There is so much that I don’t know, but I am learning how to do it, one piece at a time. I now know to look for activate/inactive buttons and make sure they are green.
